Barcelona will not be able to use summer signing if they don't register him with La Liga by the end of December: Reports

According to reports, Barcelona won't be able to play Dani Olmo next year if they don’t extend his registration by the end of December. Olmo, a product of La Masia, returned to Camp Nou from RB Leipzig last summer.

However, the 26-year-old couldn’t feature immediately for Barcelona following his return. He was forced to miss the opening two matches of the season as the club couldn’t register him due to their financial woes. A few days later, Barca were able to register the Spaniard as they took advantage of Andreas Christensen’s injury. Meanwhile, the registration was only valid until December 31.

With 2025 fast approaching, it means that by January 1, Dani Olmo will be deregistered from the Barcelona squad. Thus, he won't be able to feature in any match for La Blaugrana in the upcoming year once his registration expires. As such, the club's board needs to act fast to ensure their academy player is re-registered so that he will be eligible to play for the club for the rest of the season.

However, should Barcelona fail to reregister Dani Olmo by the end of December, he will still be able to participate in matches for the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

Olmo has scored six goals in 11 appearances across competitions this season.

Barcelona plots bold financial moves to fund Dani Olmo’s registration – Reports

Hansi Flick's side are reportedly considering moves to be able to re-register Dani Olmo for the rest of the season. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona were given a mistaken interpretation of the regulations that they would have until January 18 or 19, 2025, to register Olmo and Pau Victor.

However, in the correct interpretation of the law, they have until December 31 to resolve the issue to avoid being able to use the 26-year-old attacking midfielder for the rest of the season. Barca, however, considers Olmo an important player and has now taken further steps to raise funds to finalize the player's registration before the deadline.

According to Sport, Barcelona are calling a vote to finalize their sponsorship agreement with Nike on December 21 to generate some funds. The report further claims that the new deal will bring in an extra €45 million per season, despite their current deal already running until 2028. The new contract will run until 2038, and from 2028, the Catalan giants are set to earn an extra €60m per year.

In another report on Sport, La Blaugrana are considering the advance marketing of special VIP seats in the new Spotify Camp Nou for around 20 years. The move is said to generate an immediate income of around €200 million.
