Pundit Phil Thompson has warned Liverpool that they need to sort out the future of three key players before the season starts. He does not want to see Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah leave for free next summer.
Thompson said on talkSPORT that Liverpool cannot let the trio leave for free as it would be a big hit for their finances. He claimed that the Reds need to make a decision on the players' contracts soon, saying:
"He [Mohamed Salah] seems invigorated now and it's all wonderful. But he's not signed a contract. Trent's not signed a contract. Virgil van Dijk's not signed a contract. These are three big players we can ill afford, with our finances, to allow to go for nothing at the end of the season."
He added:
"So big decisions have got to be made with Mo, with Trent, with Virgil. Because when you're budgeting in your finances for your club, you'll have these prices, a certain price. Now, if they're going for nothing at the end of next season, it's a massive [loss]. So I still think decisions with one or two of them, big decisions have still got to be made."
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah have a year left on their contract at Liverpool.
Liverpool star told to leave for Real Madrid by Dwight Yorke
Dwight Yorke was talking to BoyleSports last month and said that Trent Alexander-Arnold should consider a move to Real Madrid. He claimed that it would not be a surprise if Los Blancos made a move for the right-back this summer:
"I won't be surprised if Real Madrid make an official bid for him. He's only played for his boyhood club and won the Premier League, the Champions League and everything else, but the stick he gets and having a friend at Real Madrid could tempt him to the biggest club in world football right now.
"For me, it's a no-brainer. If I were to advise him, those are the things I would look at because here he just gets knocked down - he should seriously consider leaving and going to Real Madrid."
Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. However, Liverpool have no plans to sell the right-back this summer and are keen on extending his deal.
