Cristiano Ronaldo received his first booking of Euro 2024 during Portugal's group stage clash against Georgia. The match took place at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, June 26.

Georgia opened the scoring after just two minutes through winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from an assist by Georges Mikautadze.

WIth Portugal trying to get an equalizer, their captain was shown a yellow card for dissent in the 28th minute after he reacted to the referee's decision to not award him a penalty for a possible shirt-pull.

Fans took social media to criticize Ronaldo's conduct in Portugal's last Euro 2024 group stage match. Here are some of their reactions on X:

In the second half, Georgia were awarded a penalty for a foul by Antonio Silva on Luka Lochoshvili, which was successfully converted by Mikautadze (57').

Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted and replaced by Goncalo Ramos in the 66th minute as the Selecao looked to find a way back into the match. However, it ended in a memorable 2-0 win for Georgia and qualification to the Round of 16.

Roberto Martínez on Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal's 2-0 loss against Georgia in Euro 2024

Following Portugal's 2-0 loss against Georgia in their last group stage match of Euro 2024, head coach Roberto Martínez reflected on his team's performance (via @TheNassrZone on X):

"The result is very bad, we started the match poorly."

With the end of the Euro 2024 group stage, this marks the first time in his career that Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored a goal in the group stage of a major international tournament.

Portugal, however, still finished top of Group F with six points and are pitted against Slovenia in the Round of 16 on July 1 at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt.
