Pundit says only Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi 'are bigger than the team'
While Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo have failed to show their best goalscoring form at Euro 2024, Lionel Messi has aslo been underwhelming at the 2024 Copa America with Argentina.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was goalless at the tournament until he scored in Argentina's 2-0 win over Canada in the semi-finals on Tuesday (July 9). Messi guided Enzo Fernandez's shot, which was on target, into the back of the net.
While the three superstars have been criticised for their performances, Liverpool legend Steve McManaman believes they are bigger than their team. He said:
“There’s only certain people in certain teams that are so-called superstars and are effectively bigger than the team. Kylian [Mbappe] is one of them, Cristiano [Ronaldo] is another, Lionel Messi is another. All three of their forms in the respective tournaments have been really poor."
