Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in the game's history to score 900 career goals. He achieved the monumental landmark by scoring Portugal's second goal in their UEFA Nations League opener in Lisbon against Croatia on Thursday.

After Diogo Dalot had given Roberto Martinez's side the lead inside seventh minute, Ronaldo entered the exclusive 900-goal club 11 minutes from the break. It marked his first goal in six competitive outings for A Selecao, having drawn a rare blank in five games at Euro 2024, where they lost to France on penalties in the quarter-final.

The 39-year-old's incredible tally of goals for club and country includes an impressive 450 strikes for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United, 131 for Portugal, 101 for Juventus, 68 for his current side Al-Nassr and five for his boyhood club Sporting CP.

During a record-breaking career spanning more than two decades and counting, Ronaldo has made a name for himself as one of the game's most lethal goalscorers and one of the best to ever grace the beautiful game.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a superb start to the new season with his current club Al-Nassr. In his second full season in Saudi Arabia, he has scored in all four games cross competitions, registering four goals and two assists.

However, his search for competitive silverware continues, having not won since winning the 2021-22 Coppa Italia with Juventus. Since then, he spent a rather underwhelming one and a half seasons back at Manchester United before joining Al-Nassr on a free transfer in December 2022.

Meanwhile, after a barren Euro 2024 campaign - where he failed to score for the first time in 11 major tournament appearances - Ronaldo is back among the goals for the 2019 Nations League winners.
