The Netherlands secured an incredible win against Turkiye in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. After going behind in the first half, the Dutch pulled off a comeback for the history books as the match finished 2-1 in favor of Holland.
The Turkish side went ahead in the 35th minute of the game courtesy of a well-directed header by Samet Akaydin. Hakan Çalhanoğlu floated in a freekick that was deflected by Virgil Van Dijk. However, the ball landed on Arda Guler's feet who looped it towards Akaydin. The Turkish centre-back didn't disappoint and made it 1-0 for his side. The first half ended with Turkey leading against the Netherlands.
The scoreline remained so until Stefan de Vrij started an epic comeback for the Netherlands in the 70th minute of the game. The Netherlands were awarded a corner in the 70th minute and it was taken by Memphis Depay from the right side. After the first cross was powered away by the defense, the ball landed on Depay's feet and he got a second bite of the cherry. This time, the cross was received by De Vrij, who rose and headed the ball into the net.
Ironically, the comeback was completed by an own goal by Mert Muldur. A through ball by Dumfries was accepted by Cody Gakpo who got a touch on it and sent it into the net. However, replays showed that the ball took a slight deflection off the feet of Muldur before bulging the net. Oranje flipped the script in just six minutes!
