Breaking: Police find suspicious object in Euro 2024 fan zone, area cordoned off ahead of Germany v Scotland

German Police have reportedly cordoned off an area of a Euro 2024 fan zone ahead of Germany's opener against Scotland tonight (June 14). A suspicious object was found at Scheidemannstrasse entrance in Berlin next to the Reichstag building, per The Mirror.

The area has been cordoned off and declared unavailable for use by Polizei Berlin Eisatz. Tonight's opening Euro 2024 Group A game between Germany and Scotland takes place at the Allianz Arena in Munich. There have been fears of hooligan and terrorism heading into the competition.

Berlin will host its first game on Saturday (June 15), when Spain faces Croatia in a Group B encounter at the Olympastadion.

The Berlin police announced the found object on social media and claimed it was spotted during a routine check. One arrest has been made after the individual left a backpack at the entrance, and bomb-sniffing dogs were rushed to the venue, per The Sun.

"A suspicous object was found in the entrance area on Scheidemannstrasse Fanzone. This area is currently not available to fans. Our colleagues are checking the object."

There have been fears of hooliganism during England's Group C clash with Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday. Because of anticipated fan disorder, it's been deemed the most 'high-risk' match of Euro 2024.

There were incidents of fan disorder during Euro 2020 which was held in 11 different countries and cities. German police are stepping up security for this tournament, which starts tonight with Germany facing Scotland and finishes on July 14 for the final.
