Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes fell short of equalling one of Cristiano Ronaldo's milestones at the Red Devils after recently guiding his team to a 3-0 win over Leicester City.
Earlier on Sunday (November 10), Fernandes continued his rich vein of form in the Premier League home match against the Foxes. He opened the scoring from quite a distance in the 17th minute before his shot was turned in to his own net by Victor Kristiansen. He assisted Alejandro Garnacho's right-footed shot in the 82nd minute of the contest.
After contributing a goal and an assist at Old Trafford, Fernandes has now reached 100 goal involvements in 170 Premier League matches for Manchester United. His latest achievement is just one short of Ronaldo's century from 169 Premier League matches for the club.
Fernandes, whose current deal will run out in June 2027, endured a difficult start to the ongoing 2024-25 season. The 30-year-old registered just five assists in 13 total outings under Erik ten Hag, but has now produced four goals and two assists in his last four overall games.
With Ruben Amorim set to begin his stint at Manchester United, Fernandes is likely to play as one of the attacking midfielders in a 3-4-3 setup. He will next feature for his club in their Premier League match against newly promoted side Ipswich Town on Sunday (November 24).
Manchester United midfielder names Cristiano Ronaldo in list of best players of his generation
Last year, Manchester United star Casemiro was asked to name the three greatest players of his generation during a chat with Brazilian magazine Placar TV. He said (h/t SPORTbible):
"I had the pleasure of seeing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar... the three greatest of my generation. Messi made his mark. You can't deny it. He was always a rival, with Barcelona and with Argentina. There was no way to escape it. But those who like football, like Messi. It was a pleasure playing against him. He is a guy who does not need comment. You just have to admire him."
Casemiro, who has scored thrice for his club this season, added:
"I saw Ronaldo [Nazario], I saw Zinedine Zidane. But without a doubt, these three are the best of my time. I never played against Cristiano, thank God! He gave me many titles and victories."
Casemiro, who will turn 33 next year, played alongside the Portuguese striker 121 times while playing for Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Ronaldo, 39, has found the back of the opposition net 10 times and recorded three assists in 15 games in all competitions for Al-Nassr this term.
