Bukayo Saka has sent a message to Arsenal teammate Myles Lewis-Skelly following the 3-0 win over Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 11. Lewis-Skelly made his first start in the Champions League for the Gunners on Wednesday and made quite an impression.
The 18-year-old looked assured all night and even played a part in Saka's opening goal. He was ultimately substituted in the 64th minute, with Mikel Arteta opting to bring on Jurrien Timber.
After the game, Lewis-Skelly posted a picture of him and Bukayo Saka with the following caption:
“A blessed night with this team.”
Saka responded with a heartwarming comment, stating:
“The beginning.”
Several of Lewis-Skelly's Arsenal teammates responded to his post, including Ben White and Timber. The teenager has now appeared seven times for the Gunners senior team this season, two of which have been starts.
Speaking after Wednesday's game, Saka was also full of praise for his countryman.
“I just said to him, like I said to him before the game, that this is his level. He needs to have no doubts and play with confidence. What he’s doing, we see it in training. I was pleased with him, he was a big part of the first goal,” said Saka via TBR Football.
He continued:
“He’s very bright. He just needs to keep the same head that he’s got. His mentality is top, he’s always asking questions, eager to learn. I’m so proud of him.”
On Wednesday, Bukayo Saka scored a brace, while Kai Havertz added a third to help Arsenal secure all three points.
When is Arsenal's next game?
Arsenal will return to action in the Premier League on Saturday, December 14, when they host Everton at the Emirates. The Gunners have three wins and two draws in their last five games in the league and are slowly picking up pace in the title race.
The north London side lost ground in the league following a mini-crisis at the end of October. Arsenal struggled to deal with the absence of Martin Odegaard, but with their mercurial skipper now back to full fitness, they have rediscovered their mojo.
The Gunners have scored 29 goals from 15 games in the league this season, the same as leaders Liverpool. Only Chelsea, who currently sit second in the Premier League, have scored more (35). Mikel Arteta's team are third in the league at the moment, six points behind the Reds, who have a game in hand.
