Fans took to social media to express their disbelief after Aston Villa recorded a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 2. A second-half stunner from Jhon Duran secured the victory for the English club in what was their first Champions League home game since 1983.

It took Duran just nine minutes after coming on as a substitute to score the winner. The Colombian forward latched on to a through ball from Pau Toress before releasing a stunning strike to beat Manuel Nuer, who was off his goal line.

Aston Villa have now recorded consecutive Champions League victories, following their 3-0 win against Swiss team Young Boys in their opening match. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's loss marked the end of their 41-game unbeaten run in the Champions League group stage (now league phase).

Bayern Munich are one of the powerhouses in the Champions League, so fans were surprised when they lost to a smaller team. Check out some of their reactions on X (formerly Twitter).

"Can't believe this really happened," a fan wrote.

Some fans blamed Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany for the shocking loss to the Premier League side:

"No way Vincent kompany broke the 42 game group stage unbeaten record," one fan said.
"Record breaker Kompany," a second fan tweeted.
"Villa won by the goalie. Bayern lost by the goalie," chimed in a third fan.

Others mocked the Bundesliga, suggesting that it is a "farmers' league":

"Bundesliga is a farmers league," a fan commented.
"Let's laugh at payern when they don't play farmers," another fan added.

How did Bayern Munich perform against Aston Villa?

Vincent Kompany's team dominated the stats in their encounter at Villa Park but suffered a surprising defeat due to their inability to convert the opportunities in the attacking third. They controlled possession throughout the game but were unable to capitalize on their dominance.

The Bundesliga team had 70 percent possession compared to Villa's 30 percent. They attempted 17 shots, with seven on target, while the host managed just three attempts and two shots on target.

Most notably, Aston Villa's goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, was the hero of the night, making seven saves, including two sensational stops to deny Michael Olise and Harry Kane.
