Chelsea will have to pay £55 million to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this window, according to reports. The Blues have seen an opening offer for the England international rejected by the Eagles.

Enzo Maresca's side are in the market for a center-back after Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile picked up hamstring injuries. The latter is expected to be out at least until February while Fofana could miss the rest of the season.

Josh Acheampong, 18, made his first-ever Premier League start against Crystal Palace last weekend. Chelsea have already recalled loanee Aaron Anselmino from Argentina this window and reports suggest that they could do the same for Trevoh Chalobah, who's on loan at Palace.

The Blues have registered an interest in Marc Guehi, who's established himself as one of the best center-backs in the league at Selhurst Park. He's played a marquee role for Oliver Glasner's side.

The Chelsea home-grown player left Stamford Bridge in 2021 to join Crystal Palace for a mere £18 million, and now the west Londoners are working on bringing him back.

According to The Sun, the Blues made an initial bid for the 24-year-old star but it was deemed 'silly' by Palace's hierarchy. The Eagles shut down approaches from Newcastle United for Guehi last summer for £70 million.

However, with the England international in the final 18 months of his contract, the club have reportedly lowered their asking price to £55 million. The Blues are expected to improve on their opening offer as well.

"I don't know if you need another" - Crystal Palace boss urges Chelsea not to recall Trevoh Chalobah

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has urged the Blues not to recall Trevoh Chalobah this window. The 50-year-old boss feels the west Londoners do not need another center-back after recalling Aaron Anselmino.

Chelsea drew 1-1 against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Saturday (January 4), with Cole Palmer and Jean-Philippe Mateta getting on the scoresheet. Speaking about Chalobah's potential return to Stamford Bridge after the game, Glasner said:

"I could see that there was Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo on the bench. I don't know if you need another one if you play with two. I was just reading that Aaron Anselmino [has] come back so they have five. I don't know what they're planning. Trevoh is doing very well for us."

The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table, four points behind Nottingham Forest (3rd) and Arsenal (2nd). They've won 10, drawn six, and lost four games so far this season.
