Chelsea star Noni Madueke has echoed a fan's claim that Nicolas Jackson is the best striker in the Premier League after their 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday (December 15). Enzo Maresca's side hosted the Bees at Stamford Bridge over the weekend. With Liverpool dropping points in a 2-2 draw to Fulham, the west Londoners took the opportunity to close the gap to the top of the league.
Marc Cucurella scored Chelsea's first of the night with a header just before the break, courtesy of Madueke's assist. The Spaniard's excellent performance, however, was somewhat tainted as he was brandished a red card after the final whistle.
Jackson doubled the lead in the second period, with Enzo Fernandez playing an excellent through ball to put the Senegalese forward in on goal. This takes his tally up to nine goals in 15 Premier League starts this season.
Bryan Mbeumo found the back of the net for Brentford in the 90th minute but to no avail, as Chelsea secured all three points. After the match, Jackson took to social media to celebrate his side's victory.
He posted a few pictures of moments from the match on Instagram with the caption:
"We keep going team."
A supporter commented:
"Best striker in the prem."
To which, Madueke replied:
"facts."
The Blues will next face Irish outfit Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Conference League (December 19).
Enzo Maresca provides adamant response when asked about Chelsea's chances in the title race
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has not changed his mind about his side's chances in the Premier League title race this season. The Italian insists that the Blues aren't ready to challenge just yet.
The west Londoners have been in excellent form so far this term and seem Liverpool's biggest threat in the title race. They are just two points behind the league leaders although Arne Slot's side have a game in hand.
While supporters may see a chance to lift the title in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, Maresca has not changed his stance on the matter. Speaking to reporters after the game, the former Leicester City manager said:
“For me, we are NOT ready. You can talk about the title and the fans can dream about the title… absolutely. If you ask me, I will tell you what I think. We’re not ready but we are happy the fans can dream."
The west London outfit will return to league action when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton at the weekend (December 22).
