Chelsea are looking to reclaim their heydays under new boss Enzo Maresca. The Italian, appointed as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement this month, is working to improve his squad.
Meanwhile, the Blues are interested in Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodian. Elsewhere, attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk's time at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end.
On that note, here's a look at the key Chelsea transfer stories as on June 19, 2024:
Chelsea want Samu Omorodian
Chelsea have identified Samu Omorodian as a target this summer, according to acclaimed journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. New manager Enzo Maresca is on a hunt for a new No. 9 to share the goalscoring load with Nicolas Jackson.
Benjamin Sesko was initially a target this summer, but the Slovenian striker wants to stay at RB Leipzig for now. Victor Osimhen, a long-term target for the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, has been deemed too expensive.
The Blues are scouting the market for cheaper alternatives and have arrived at the doorstep of Atletico Madrid. Omorodian spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Alaves, registering nine goals and one assist in 36 games across competitions.
The 20-year-old is back at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium, but the London giants are plotting to bring him to England. Chelsea reportedly offered €40 million for the Spaniard, but it was swiftly rejected by the La Liga giants.
Los Rojiblancos apparently want Omorodian's suitors to trigger his €80 million release clause. AS Roma and Napoli also have their eyes on the 20-year-old.
Mykhaylo Mudryk could leave Stamford Bridge
Mykhaylo Mudryk could be offloaded this summer, according to Football Insider. The Ukrainian forward joined the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 but has failed to impress.
Mudryk registered seven goals and two assists in 41 outings across competitions in the 2023-24 campaign. The London giants are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, with Michael Olise a priority target.
The Frenchman enjoyed an impressive campaign with Crystal Palace, registering 10 goals and six assists in 19 Premier League games. Olise could be an upgrade on Mudryk, and his arrival could spell the end of the Ukrainian's time at Stamford Bridge.
Jhon Duran wants to join the Blues, says Fabrizio Romano
Jhon Duran is keen to move to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to acclaimed transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Colombian forward enjoyed a decent 2023-24 campaign with Aston Villa, racking up eight goals in 37 games across competitions despite being a backup to Ollie Watkins.
The London giants are pleased with his efforts and are apparently plotting a move this summer. The Villans are willing to consider his departure as they look to adhere to the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.
Speaking on PlayBack, Romano added that new Blues manager Enzo Maresca would have a say in the final decision regarding the move.
“Jhon Duran is ready to go to Chelsea, he wants to go to Chelsea. What I’m hearing is also that Jhon Duran is an option now who is being discussed internally at Chelsea, not just between the directors but also the technical staff. So, Enzo Maresca will be involved to decide what they want to do with Jhon Duran,” said Romano.
Duran's contract at Villa Park runs till 2028.
