Fans have reacted to midfielder N'Golo Kante's brilliant display in France's 1-0 Euro 2024 win over Austria in Dusseldorf on Monday (June 17). Maximilian Wober scored the game's only goal - an own goal - seven minutes before the break.
Didier Deschamps' men bossed proceedings without finding the back of the net before the unfortunate Wober put one past his own goalkeeper following some superb work from Les Bleus captain Kylian Mbappe.
The 25-year-old striker, though, was guilty of squandering a gilt-edged opportunity in the second half, but it mattered not, as Les Bleus got their campaign underway with a hard-fought three points.
Fans were impressed with Kante's display from the middle of the park, with one tweeting:
"Saudi is temporary, class is permanent"
Another chimed in:
"70% of the Earth is covered by water, the rest by N'golo Kante. Still bossing it at 33-years old"
Another posted:
"N'golo Kante I just stood up to applaud they'll never be another midfielder like you'"
Meanwhile, Jay took a dig at Kante's former club, Chelsea, tweeting:
"Another player Chelsea almost ruined."
Godzila Yeti said:
"Wth is he using his football money on?"
Ice Cold Alfredo simply posted:
"Electric"
With the three points, Les Bleus move up to second in the fledgling Group D points table, behind table toppers Netherlands on goal difference. The top two in the group clash in Leipzig on Friday (June 21).
How have France fared recently against the teams in their Euro 2024 group?
France are in a relatively easy group at Euro 2024. Apart from the Netherlands - as mentioned above - Les Bleus have Austria and Poland in their group. Didier Deschamps' side met the Oranje as recently as the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
They won 2-1 away and 4-0 at home en route, topping their group ahead of Ronald Koeman's side. Meanwhile, Les Bleus have lost just once in 11 games with Austria - including their aforementioned meeting on Monday - winning eight times.
Against Poland, the two-time European champions are unbeaten in eight games, winning four times. In their last competitive meeting at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, France ran out 3-1 winners.
