Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer broke another club record with a goal for the Blues in their 1-2 home loss to Fulham in the Premier League on Boxing Day. The England international ended a two-game mini-drought by opening the scoring for his side with his 26th league goal of 2024.

Palmer has been a revelation since moving to Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, and he further strengthened his legacy at Stamford Bridge against Fulham. His goal in the 16th minute of the tie made him the club's top scorer in a single calendar year in the league, eclipsing the total of 25 scored by Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink in 2001.

Earlier this year, Cole Palmer broke the club's record, also set by Hasselbaink, for most league goal contributions in a calendar year. The 22-year-old midfielder has now scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 18 Premier League games this season and has scored 26 league goals this calendar year.

Palmer is still one behind the club's all-time league goal record in a calendar year of 27 goals, which was set by club hero Bobby Tambling in 1966. The former Manchester City man has one game, against Ipswich Town on December 30, to try and become the outright record holder.

Cole Palmer on target for Chelsea in rare Fulham defeat

After failing to score in games against Brentford and Everton, Cole Palmer returned to the scoresheet for Chelsea in their 1-2 defeat to neighbours Fulham. The Blues suffered a first league defeat since October and only a third this season after losses to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Palmer opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge with a typical strike, receiving the ball on the half-turn in the middle of the Fulham half after a pass from Levi Colwill. The 22-year-old skipped past two defenders before shifting the ball onto his left foot and side-footing home from the edge of the box in the 16th minute.

Fulham reacted excellently and put the home side under pressure throughout the remainder of the game. Their pressure paid off in the 82nd minute, when substitute Harry Wilson headed home from close range after a header across the box from Timothy Castagne.

The Cottagers stole all three points at the death with a quick counter following a careless punt upfield from Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Rodrigo Muniz marked his appearance off the bench with a composed finish to help his side claim a first win at Stamford Bridge since 1979.
