Fans on social media heaped praise on Manchester United defender Manuel Ugarte after his brilliant performance during their 3-0 victory against Leicester City. The two sides faced off in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday, November 10.
The Red Devils produced a sublime performance to secure their fourth league win of the season. Bruno Fernandes put the home side ahead with a well-taken strike in the 17th minute. Manchester United went 2-0 up in the 21st minute after Fernandes’ header ricocheted off Victor Kristiansen into the net.
Alejandro Garnacho then scored a third in the 82nd minute to complete a resounding win for the Manchester club. Manuel Ugarte was named in the starting XI by interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and gave a good shift.
As per @UtdArena on X, the Uruguayan midfielder had 68 touches and completed 46/50 passes in the game. The 23-year-old won 10/16 duels, made seven recoveries, won 6/8 tackles, made three interceptions, and created one big chance.
Ugarte joined Manchester United in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He struggled in his first few games for the club but is slowly finding his feet and was outstanding against the Foxes. Fans appreciated his performance in the match and acknowledged his contributions.
One fan posted:
“Comfortably his best game in a Man Utd shirt.”
Another fan tweeted:
“For the first time in a long long time, our squad depth is very good. Ugarte finally found his rhythm as destroyer and ball winner. Casemiro back to his best. Bruno being Bruno. Garnacho brace again. Amorim better find a solution for Rasmus and Joshua.”
Other fans reacted as follows:
“Ugarte was incredible today! Complete level above his last few performances, which did not deserve the praise they got. If he played like that every week, I'd rate him massively,” one fan wrote.
“Manuel Ugarte was insane today. Made key passes. Won every ball, and tackle. Amazing stuff. We have a real engine in midfield now. Writing him off and comparing to DVB was crazy. When I speak on a talent, listen!” another fan added.
“Ugarte What a player,” one fan praised the midfielder.
“Ugarte what a signing,” another chimed in.
What next for Manchester United after Leicester win?
The Red Devils will now look forward to life under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who will begin his role at the club on Monday, November 11.
Manchester United have been unbeaten across competition since Erik ten Hag was sacked on October 28. Amorim will now look to continue from where Ruud van Nistelrooy left off. With the international break set to take center stage, he will have time to set up himself at Old Trafford before facing his first real challenge.
Manchester United will next face Ipswich Town in the league on Sunday, November 24, after the November internationals. They are 13th in the Premier League and 15th in the UEFA Europa League. They will also face Tottenham Hotspur away in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
