Roberto Martínez opens up about Portugal's loss to Georgia in Euro 2024

Georgia took the lead just two minutes against A Selecao as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored from an assist by Georges Mikautadze. Cristiano Ronaldo was given a yellow card for dissent in the 28th minute after he reacted when the referee denied him a penalty for a possible shirt pull.

Georgia doubled their lead, with Georges Mikautadze successfully netting a penalty in the 57th minute, which was awarded after a foul committed by Portuguese defender Antonio Silva on Luka Lochoshvili.

Following the Euro 2024 defeat, Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez spoke about his squad's performance (via @TheNassrZone on X):

"The result is very bad. We started the match poorly."

The manager addressed Ronaldo's first booking in the clash (via @TimelineCR7 on X):

"VAR was not consistent. It was a penalty on Cristiano, without a doubt, we suffered."

The Selecao won the title in 2016 after ending up as runners-up in 2004.
