Cristiano Ronaldo creates history with assist for Fernandes
The 39-year-old bagged his eighth assist of the European championship today by setting up Bruno Fernandes. He had a great chance to bag his first goal of Euro 2024 in the second half but he unselfishly squared it to Fernandes.
In the process, he equaled the all-time assist record of the competition, joining Czech legend Karel Poborský with eight assists. Spain's former playmaker Cesc Fabregas, former Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Dutch legend Arjen Robben are all in third with five assists each.
Having struck in all five of his previous appearances at the Euros, the Al-Nassr man is looking to become the first player to net in six and extend his record further. He is already the competition's most prolific goalscorer (14), the most capped player (27), and the highest assist-maker (8). He has also featured in the tournament the most number of times (6).
