David Villa has built his dream footballer and he has taken traits from Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to do so.
A Spain and Barcelona icon, Villa won the 2008 UEFA Euro and the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain. He scored four goals in the 2008 Euro and five in the 2010 World Cup.
Villa played for clubs like Valencia, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and more during his career. Fans might remember the beauty he scored against Manchester United in the 2010-11 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley.
Villa has built a solid dream footballer. For the right foot, he picked Cristiano Ronaldo and for left foot, he chose Lionel Messi. For speed, Villa named his former Spain teammate Fernando Torres.
Ex-Valencia midfielder David Albelda received the nod for the strength category. He picked ex-Valencia and Spain teammates David Silva and Juan Mata for football intelligence and skills, respectively.
Watch as David Silva picks his dream team:
David Villa is one of the finest strikers of modern football. His historic 2010 World Cup campaign will remain in the fond memory of Spanish Armada fans. Among the five goals he scored, the strike from near the halfway line against Chile in the Group stages was perhaps his best of the tournament.
David Villa's old take on the Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi debate
Villa has played with Lionel Messi as a teammate at Barcelona. The pair shared the pitch 103 times for Blaugrana, combining for 24 goals. Villa, however, has mostly played as Cristiano Ronaldo's rival at the club and the international level.
The Spain icon, though, refused to pick a side when asked to compare the two consensus greatest players of all time. Villa noted that both are extremely good players with their unique qualities. He said in 2018 (via Inquirer.net):
“Both are very good players. It’s not right to compare both because they do a lot of good things.”
Ronaldo and Messi might be similar in terms of the tremendous success they have achieved. Yet, they are very different in terms of their playing style. Both superstars, however, are a pleasure to watch in action for fans.
