Cristiano Ronaldo to Monterrey? Liga MX club's president provides emphatic two-word response to transfer rumors

Monterrey president Antonio Noriega has ruled out any chance of the Liga MX club signing Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the future.

In the last couple of weeks, Monterrey has reportedly been linked with the five-time Ballon d'Or award winner. Prior to the Mexican giants' 2-1 CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-final first leg loss against Columbus Crew, fans asked Noriega about the aforesaid possibility.

However, Noriega rubbished reports involving Ronaldo (h/t Bolavip):

"No way."

After offering his two-word response, Noriega apparently laughed about the recent rumors. He also sarcastically mentioned that if Monterrey fans raise the money via crowdfunding, a move could happen soon.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has a contract until June 2025 at the Saudi Pro League outfit and is reportedly keen to extend his stay in Riyadh. The 39-year-old has scored 50 goals and laid out 14 assists in 56 outings for Al-Alami since arriving on a Bosman move in January 2023.

During a chat with L'Equipe, Juventus attacker Dusan Vlahovic asserted that he is focused on scoring goals as he does not possess world-class technical ability. He said (h/t GOAL):

"I understand it too. I'm not Neymar, [Eden] Hazard, or [Lionel] Messi, guys who, when you see them, you say to yourself: 'Wow, what a player!' For me, my advantage would rather be the statistics, the goals. Whatever the profile, the attacker is fundamental in a team. If the attacker plays well, the team plays well."

Sharing thoughts on the changing nature of the sport, Vlahovic added:

"Football has changed so much. Today, people say: 'Football is more physical, there are more races.' But they don't understand that precisely because there are physical players, your technique must be at the top. You have less time and space to do things."

Asked to name who he admired while growing up, the Serb replied:

"Cristiano Ronaldo, obviously, who I followed from Manchester, when he was a left winger, I liked his movements, his killer instinct, I think he's one of the best in history. I also really like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] and Fernando Torres with his slightly long hair during his Liverpool days. And Karim Benzema, a player that I adore."

Ronaldo, who has been in fine form for Al-Nassr this season, registered 145 goals and 64 assists in 346 outings in all competitions for Manchester United across two spells. He helped them lift nine trophies.

Vlahovic, on the other hand, has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 32 overall appearances for Juventus in the ongoing season.
