Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest finisher in the history of football. The Merseysiders have had an excellent start to the 2024-25 campaign.
Arne Slot's side lead the Premier League table by two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. While he has started just three league games so far, Gakpo has featured in all of his side's fixtures this campaign.
The Dutch forward has scored five goals and provided two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions for the Reds this term. He recently scored the equalizer in Liverpool's 2-1 comeback win over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend (November 2).
The result saw the Reds reassume their spot at the summit of the league table, with Manchester City failing to secure any points in their 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth.
During an interview with GOAL, Gakpo was asked about a series of topics such as the best player he's ever played with and his childhood idol. When asked who the best finisher in world football is past or present, the Liverpool forward picked Cristiano Ronaldo, as can be seen in the video below:
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to rack up the numbers for Al-Nassr despite nearing 40. The Portuguese superstar has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 13 appearances across competitions this term.
Arne Slot claims Liverpool star can emulate Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's longevity
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has suggested that Mohamed Salah can emulate Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi's longevity in his career.
The Egyptian forward arrived at Anfield in 2017 and has certainly shown no signs of slowing down. Salah has contributed 220 goals and 96 assists so far, displaying exceptional levels of consistency. He's off to a great start this season as well, scoring nine goals and seven assists in 15 appearances across competitions.
Ahead of Liverpool's Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday (November 5), Slot was asked whether the 32-year-old's age could have an effect on his performances in the near future. He said:
"There is no reason to think that he is dropping in terms of level. That's not what you see with his numbers or what you see when he plays. I cannot tell you how the future will look like."
"Cristiano Ronaldo, what age is he at the moment? Messi is still incredible. But there are also players like me who weren't as good anymore at 33, not that I was that good at 26 but I regressed worse than Ronaldo and Messi. I don't know what the future brings but I do know Mo is in a very good place at the moment."
