Cristiano Ronaldo's ex-teammate, Weston McKennie, has reportedly been linked to a potential move to the MLS where he will join Lionel Messi's Inter Miami. The 25-year-old joined Serie A club Juventus on loan from Schalke 04 in 2020, which was later converted to a permanent deal for a fee of €21.9 million.
Mckennie is currently in the last year of his contract and the Italian giants are eager to offload him. An opportunity cropped up when Aston Villa agreed to take the United States international in a part-exchange deal with Douglas Luiz, but McKennie rejected the deal.
With the summer transfer window nearing its deadline soon, questions are still afloat about the American's future. According to a report by JuveLive, his future might lie in his homeland in the MLS.
It also stated that Inter Miami are prepared to pay the €14 million that Juventus demand to sign the midfielder to bolster the pink outfit alongside juggernauts Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba.
Fiorentina are another club that remains interested in signing the American. The Italian club has already secured the services of David De Gea, Moise Kean, and Amir Richardson in this summer transfer window and looks to strengthen their squad even further.
Star defender picked Cristiano Ronaldo as the 'best' after choosing Lionel Messi in an earlier interview
Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt chose Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time in a 2019 interview alongside Dutch teammate Frenkie De Jong. When asked about the GOAT debate, the 25-year-old defender didn't hesitate a bit when choosing Lionel Messi.
"I will go with Messi," replied De Ligt.
"Yes, I also choose Messi," agreed De Jong.
"We agree on that. There is no need to explain much," said the Red Devils defender.
However, De Ligt changed his opinion when he joined Italian side Juventus in 2019 and started sharing the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo. When asked about his opinion in a 2020 interview with Tuttosport, Matthijs De Ligt had no hesitation in choosing Ronaldo as the best of his generation. However, he was not asked to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi at that time.
"Cristiano is the best of his generation and a big example for young players. I try to improve myself by looking at him in training, as he trains with so much intensity," commented De Ligt.
Matthijs De Ligt recently signed for EPL giants Manchester United from Bayern Munich for a deal worth €50 million.
