Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo posted a message on his social media after helping his side claim a 2-0 win over Al-Wehda on Friday, September 27. The Knights of Najd continued their fine form since the arrival of former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli, winning a third successive game.
Ronaldo returned to the starting XI for the Saudi giants, having been rested for their King's Cup of Champions win over Al-Hazm during the week. Pioli's side picked up a narrow 2-1 win in the cup, having also defeated Al-Ettifaq in the league last weekend.
Angelo Gabriel opened the scoring in the 41st minute. Cristiano Ronaldo (56') marked his return to the XI with a goal from the penalty spot in the second half of the Saudi Pro League encounter. Sultan Al-Ghannam won the penalty from which the 39-year-old Portuguese star scored in the second half of the encounter.
Cristiano Ronaldo took his career tally to 903 goals for club and country, further extending his incredible goalscoring record. He created two chances in the game and recorded nine passes into the final third, showing his playmaking qualities. The goal took his tally to four in five league games this season.
The Portuguese forward posted a message on X after the game, celebrating his side's third straight win. He wrote:
"Three wins in a row! 🔥"
Al-Nassr have turned their fortunes around after a stuttering start to the season, which saw them pick up five points from their first three games. Al-Alami have risen to third place in the league standings with 11 points from five games so far.
Cristiano Ronaldo stars for Al-Nassr in win over Al-Wehda
Cristiano Ronaldo was on the score sheet for Stefano Pioli's Al-Nassr side as they picked up maximum points from their league clash against Al-Wehda. The Knights of Najd won 2-0 against their opponents to record a third successive win.
Pioli's side were hit with an injury blow in midweek as Brazilian star Anderson Talisca was ruled out of the tie through a thigh injury. In his absence, teenage sensation Wesley Gassova was handed a start, playing alongside Ronaldo, Angelo Gabriel, and Sadio Mane in attack.
Former Chelsea youngster Angelo opened the scoring in the 41st minute when his mis-hit cross sailed over the goalkeeper for his first goal in yellow. Al-Nassr doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot.
Mane thought he had scored a third for the side, only for the offside flag to deny him as Ronaldo had been in an illegal position in the build-up. Al-Wehda finished the game with ten men after defender Waleed Bakshween received a red card with four minutes left in the tie.
