Cristiano Ronaldo is set to accept a new contract with Al-Nassr, as per Saudi Arabian media outlet Al Khobar and Portugal’s O Jogo (via AS). The multi-million dollar renewal will apparently see Ronaldo pocket over half a million euros per day.
Ronaldo, with a salary of €200 million, plus another €60 million in image rights, was already the highest-paid footballer in Saudi Arabia, as per reports from Bloomberg and Forbes. This new contract extension will go a long way in retaining his status as the highest-paid footballer in the world.
The reports suggest that Ronaldo, who will turn 40 next month, will extend his contract with the Riyadh club until June 2026 and receive over €200 million in exchange. Since he arrived in 2023, Ronaldo has scored 75 goals and provided 18 assists in 84 matches across competitions for Al-Nassr, though he has won only one title.
The 2023 Arab Club Championship is the only title Ronaldo has won so far at Al-Nassr, with his arrival in Riyadh coinciding with their city rivals Al-Hilal's dominance on the pitch. The latter won the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League and are currently at the top of the standings with 37 points to their name after 14 games.
Al-Nassr, on the other hand, finished second in the league in 2023-24 with 82 points and are currently perched in the third position in the standings with 28 points in their bag. In the ongoing season, Ronaldo has been in excellent form, having netted on 17 occasions in 20 games across competitions while bagging three assists.
Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Saudi Arabia in 2023 from Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo is at the forefront of Al-Nassr's title challenge this season, although it is not going to be easy by any means. Their rivals Al-Hilal seem poised to defend their title comfortably, barring an unexpected dip in form towards the latter half of the league season.
The Portuguese maestro arrived in Saudi Arabia in January 2023 after a fall-out with then-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. He had played for Juventus after leaving Real Madrid in 2018. During his second tenure at Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored 27 goals under four different managers.
Cristiano Ronaldo's initial deal with Al-Nassr was till 2025. The 39-year-old icon remains one of the fittest footballers in the world and his advancing years have not seen him slow down at all.
