Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a message on Instagram after finding the net for Portugal in their UEFA Nations League win over Poland on Saturday, October 12. The 39-year-old was the scorer of his side's second goal in the game, ensuring that they picked up a third successive win in the competition.
Portugal are aiming for a second Nations League title, having last won the competition in 2019. They endured a disappointing summer in Euro 2024, crashing out at the hands of France in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. However, they have won every game since then, and kept up that form against Poland.
Cristiano Ronaldo featured from the start against the Poles, with Rafael Leao and Pedro Neto flanking him in attack. The combination helped propel the Selecao to the win in Warsaw, and Ronaldo posted on Instagram to celebrate the result.
"Important win in the Nations League. Thanks for everyone's support, let's go all out!" he wrote.
Portugal boss Roberto Martinez made some changes to his XI for the Poland game, including handing a debut to Chelsea ace Renato Veiga in defense. The likes of Joao Cancelo and Vitinha were also left on the bench as the Selecao protected their five-game unbeaten run against Poland.
Ronaldo was once more influential for his side as they picked up all three points away from home against Poland. The 39-year-old won five of seven duels he contested, had four touches in the opposition box, and put in a shift defensively to lead his side to victory.
Cristiano Ronaldo continues fine form with goal as Portugal beat Poland
Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal team were too strong for Poland to handle as they claimed a 3-1 win over the Poles in Warsaw. The Al-Nassr man took his tally for club and country to 11 for the season, continuing his impressive goalscoring form.
The Selecao deservedly took the lead after 26 minutes of the tie when Bernardo Silva rifled home a volley after a cushioned header from Premier League rival Bruno Fernandes. Roberto Martinez's men soon found a second goal, with Cristiano Ronaldo firing home the rebound after a shot from Rafael Leao came off the post in the 37th minute.
Poland pulled one back against the run of play as former Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski fired home in the 78th minute to set up a tense finale. Portugal made sure of the three points 10 minutes later when Jan Bednarek put the ball into his own net.
