Former Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater used just two words to sum up Manchester United's Harry Maguire after his stunning display in the FA Cup third-round win over Arsenal on penalties. The English defender has divided opinion among fans since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2019.

While he was in and out of the starting XI under former manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire's fortunes have improved since Ruben Amorim's arrival. The 31-year-old has fought his way back into the team with a string of impressive performances.

The Englishman hardly put a foot wrong in the Arsenal game, ensuring the Red Devils stayed compact at the back even after going a man down. He did give away a penalty, but it was a controversial decision as Kai Havertz appeared to go down under minimal contact. Thankfully, Altay Bayindir managed to stop Martin Odegaard's resulting spot-kick.

Maguire played 104 minutes for Manchester United before he was replaced by Leny Yoro. By then, the Englishman had registered 50 touches, 11 clearances, five blocks and four recoveries. He won 100% of his aerial duels and 75% of his ground duels.

After the win, Maguire posted a series of pictures on social media with the caption:

"Sunday afternoons in the FA Cup."

Drinkwater responded with a comment:

"Class Lad."

Harry Maguire has appeared in nine of Manchester United's 13 games under Ruben Amorim, starting seven.

Manchester United paid Leicester City £80m for Harry Maguire in 2019, a world record fee for a defender. The Englishman has since appeared 224 times for the Red Devils and won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup with them

He has started the last five games in the Premier League and appears to have cemented the central role in Ruben Amorim's back three. Speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Manchester United insider Andy Mitten claimed that Maguire was ill in the buildup to the Arsenal game.

“I thought Harry Maguire has been excellent under the new manager. I don’t think it’s well known but he spent the last two days in bed before the game. He really wanted to play, and he did play and he was magnificent,” said Mitten.

Harry Maguire's contract was due to expire this summer, but the club have triggered a one-year extension in his deal.
