Argentine Twitch streamer Lautaro Del Campo shared his thoughts after hitting Lionel Messi's iconic jersey celebration at the Real Madrid home ground, Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, July 13.
Campo aka La Cobra beat fellow streamer Diego Guanyar Iglesias at the La Velada del Ano 4. He pulled out a Barcelona jersey with Lionel Messi's name and held it up in front of the crowd. It was a recreation of La Pulga's celebration from April 2017 at the Bernabeu after scoring a last-minute banger in an El Clasico.
Speaking of the celebration after the match, Del Campo said he had to recreate what his idol did long ago at the Real Madrid home ground.
"I fulfilled a dream, I did what my idol did thousands of times at the Bernabeu. Life is to be lived," he said. (via Barca Universal)
La Cobra also dedicated an Instagram post to his celebration, adding that he had to win in one of the most important stadiums like his idol Messi.
"I did what I had to do. Win in one of the most important stadiums in the world. My idol did it as a kid and I had to try it too. Thank you all for always trusting me, life is made of anecdotes and today I take one of the most important ones in my life," La Cobra wrote in his caption.
Seven years after Lionel Messi's jersey celebration at the Real Madrid home ground, the moment remains one of the most iconic moments of the El Clasico. Fans and pundits recall the moment as one of the colder celebrations in football.
Lionel Messi's iconic jersey celebration against Real Madrid is one for the Bernabeu crowd to remember
Lionel Messi hit his iconic jersey celebration at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 24, 2017, after scoring a last-minute goal in an El Clasico against Real Madrid.
The La Liga fixture is widely considered one of the best face-offs between the two Spanish rivals. It also came when rivals Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo represented Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. The match was a nail-biter with both teams eyeing to one-up the other in the La Liga table.
The match began with Casemiro scoring the opening goal for Real Madrid, but Lionel Messi responded within five minutes with a decisive goal. Messi dribbled past the Los Blancos defense into the penalty box to score the equalizer for Barcelona.
Ivan Rakitic further helped the Blaugrana by scoring from right outside the Real Madrid penalty box. However, the Los Blancos were not one to give up so soon. James Rodriguez brought back the hosts into the game by finding the net in the 85th minute.
With a 2-2 scoreline, it was a do-or-die situation for the Blaugrana. Their only hopes remained on a last-minute wonder from the likes of Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez.
Barcelona fans will forever remember the moment when La Pulga stepped up at the right moment with only seconds remaining for the final whistle. Lionel Messi reached the Los Blancos penalty box right before Jordi Alba received the ball on the left flank. He delivered an incredible pass to an approaching Messi, who smoothly deposited it into the Los Blancos net, sealing the deal for the Catalan giants.
Lionel Messi took off his shirt and held it up in front of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd right after scoring the decisive goal for Barcelona. The celebration is still emulated and cherished by many football fans.
