Crystal Palace's Danish defender Joachim Anderson went from hero to zero in a matter or moments for his country in their 2-0 Euro 2024 Round of 16 defeat to Germany on Saturday (June 29) in Dortmund. The defender saw his luck turn terribly in a few moments. First, his 48th-minute strike was ruled out for offside, if that was not bad enough, he conceded a penalty moments later, which put his side behind.
Anderson was impressive in the first half, keeping things tight and helping the Danes maintain parity with the hosts at half-time. Sadly, the Euro 2024 hosts turned the screw and eventually sealed a comfortable win.
The Palace defender conceded a penalty after he was adjudged by English referee Michael Oliver to have handled David Raum's cross. The penalty was duly converted by Kai Havertz to give the hosts the lead and send the BVB stadium into raptures.
The unfortunate defender also got booked in the 57th minute to limit his ability to influence the game in any meaningful capacity as the last line of defence.
The Palace star will be disappointed with the penalty he conceded, especially as he was having a good game before the incident. He completed 85 percent of his passes and won half of his aerial duels.
Germany through to quarterfinals of Euro 2024 after Joachim Anderson error
Euro 2024 hosts Germany got the better of Denmark in their Round of 16 clash in Dortmund with a 2-0 victory. The victory came thanks to an error from Crystal Palace defender Joachim Anderson, who was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.
The resulting penalty was converted by Arsenal star Kai Havertz before Germany doubled their lead in the 68th minute through Jamal Musiala.
The victory sees the host through to the quarterfinals, where they could meet fellow three-time winners Spain for a place in the last-foue next week.
