Euro 2024: Scotland knocked out of tournament as Kevin Csoboth scores 100th minute winner for Hungary in final Group A clash

Hungary forward Kevin Csoboth broke Scottish hearts when he struck a dramatic 90+10th minute winner to knock Scotland out of Euro 2024. The Tartan Army were sent packing on Sunday (June 23) after suffering a 1-0 loss to Marco Rossi's men at Stuttgart Arena.

Csoboth entered the fray in the 86th minute and scored one of the most famous goals in his nation's history. The Újpest forward struck in the 10th minute of added time to ensure Hungary remained alive at the European Championships.

The game was marred by Barnabas Varga's serious injury in the 68th minute. He was involved in a horror collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn and was left unconscious. He was put in a recovery position and stretchered off the pitch.

The Tartan Army thought they should have had a penalty in the 79th minute when Stuart Armstrong went down under the challenge from Willi Orban. No spot kick was awarded, much to their frustration.

It was a disappointing night for Steve Clarke's men, who finished bottom in Group A of Euro 2024. Hungary's hopes of a third-place passage to the knockouts are pretty slim, as they have a -3 goal difference, and all the other groups still have to finish.

The Hungarians came alive in the latter stages and hit the woodwork amid an onslaught on Gunn's goal. They perhaps just shaded proceedings against a toothless Scottish team that managed just four attempts and none on target.

Euro 2024: Steve Clarke left fuming after Scotland weren't awarded a penalty against Hungary

Steve Clarke was furious with the decision not to award his side a penalty.

Scotland manager Clarke couldn't understand why his team wasn't awarded a penalty when Armstrong was brought down by Orban. He vented his frustrations after the game and wanted an explanation (via BBC Sport):

"Someone has to explain to me why it wasn't a penalty because otherwise I'm thinking there's something wrong."

England legend Alan Shearer backed Clarke's opinion. While speaking in the BBC studio, he felt it was a definite penalty and called it a terrible challenge. VAR didn't feel the need to advise Argentine referee Facundo Tello to rewatch it on the pitchside monitor.

The result means Scotland have failed to win a game at Euro 2024. The Tartan Army started their campaign with a demoralizing 5-1 loss to hosts Germany in their opener. They managed to bounce back with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland but crashed out of the competition tonight.
