Former Chelsea and current Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is interested in the Manchester United and Chelsea jobs this summer, according to reports from The Mirror.
Tuchel is set to part ways with the Bavarians at the end of the season, after having lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen. However, the German has led them into the UEFA Champions League semifinals and will be hoping to leave on a high note.
Tuchel is reportedly interested in either making a return to Stamford Bridge, or taking the top job at Manchester United if it becomes available.
Current United manager Erik ten Hag, who has been in charge since 2022, has led the Red Devils to an FA Cup title and a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League in his first season.
However, things have taken a turn for the worse this season. Manchester United are struggling in sixth place in the league, 13 points off the Champions League qualification spot with a game in hand. They also finished at the bottom of their UCL group, with just one win and one draw in six games.
Although he has led Manchester United to the FA Cup final once again, rumors are rife about the sacking of the Dutchman. Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS took over a minority stake in the club earlier this season, and have reportedly held talks with Tuchel about the managerial position at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is also enduring a disastrous season with the Blues. Currently sitting in ninth place in the EPL table, the Argentine could also be on the verge of losing his managerial role.
In just over 18 months at the club, Tuchel led Chelsea to a Champions League title in May 2021 and a Club World Cup title in February 2022.
Tuchel is known to be a great admirer of English football and believes he has unfinished business in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the summer.
"In the next 11 days, it's only about football" - Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel responds to fan petition asking him to stay amid Manchester United, Chelsea links
Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has responded to a fan petition, that has garnered over 15,000 signatures, asking him to stay at the club.
Amid rumours linking him to Manchester United and Chelsea, the German has made it clear that his decision will not be influenced by any fan polls and petitions.
He reiterated that he is solely focused on Bayern's football and that the Champions League is his priority at the moment. Ahead of Bayern's 2-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, he said (via Fabrizio Romano):
"Even though this topic is good for me when they [the fans] wish you to stay, it's not something thats a priority. It isn't allowed to be a priority. In the next 11 days, it’s only about football, nothing else. Whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant, I don’t allow myself to be influenced by it.”
Whether he makes the decision to move to Manchester United or Chelsea, or even stay at Bayern, Tuchel has shown a great degree of professionalism in handling the situation.
Next up, he will be taking charge of the Bavarians against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal at the Allianz Arena on April 30.
