Former Manchester United attacker Shola Shoretire reunited with his former teammates as his current side PAOK visited Old Trafford. The two sides faced off in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday (November 7), with the hosts coming out on top with a 2-0 scoreline.
Shoretire came on as a substitute for the Greek side in the 84th minute but didn't quite influence the game. Manchester United were already 2-0 up when he came on and the Red Devils managed to close out the game safely.
However, he was involved in a heated altercation with Casemiro, who reacted angrily to a reckless foul from the 20-year-old. Mason Mount also joined in on the exchange, registering his displeasure with the intensity of the tackle.
After the game, Lisandro Martinez could be seen joking around with Shoretire. Marcus Rashford also had a seemingly light-hearted discussion with his former teammate.
Here's a video of the same:
The young attacker, who made five appearances for the Manchester United senior side, was given a rousing reception by the Old Trafford faithful when he came on. He had left the club this summer on a free transfer.
Shola Shoretire also put up an Instagram post, sharing images from his return to Old Trafford. Here's the post:
Amad Diallo struck twice in the second half to help the Red Devils register a 2-0 win. With this, the English giants moved up to 15th in the Europa League table, just three points off the eighth place.
Manchester United interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy on Casemiro
Manchester United interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy had heaped praise on Casemiro after his first game in charge of the Red Devils. Following Erik ten Hag's sacking on October 28, the former striker was handed the interim role and his first assignment was a Carabao Cup game against Leicester City.
United ran out 5-2 winners, with the Brazilian midfielder scoring twice. After the game, Nistelrooy hailed Casemiro for fighting back after a tough run of form earlier in the season. He told the club's official website:
"I'm delighted for him that the first goal went in. I was delighted for Case, the way he's been training and helping the team and the club, he's such an example. You also see the crowd's reaction and they also know what he's about."
Van Nistelrooy continued:
"Of course, going through difficult moments, the Liverpool game, he got a lot of criticism. It was so hard, he was almost the one to blame for that game and it's not fair, he didn't deserve that, it was not true.
"If you see him in training and the way he prepares for games, with the history and all he has achieved with five Champions Leagues, he's an example for us. That was part of my celebration, I'm happy for him."
Nistelrooy's last game in charge will be Leicester City's visit to Old Trafford on Sunday, November 10. Ruben Amorim will then take over as the full-time head coach the following day.
