Twitter users made fun of Cristiano Ronaldo's failure to guide Al-Nassr to victory while his rival, Lionel Messi, won the 'Laureus Sportsman of the Year' award on the same night.

Ronaldo's Al-Nassr were held to a 1-1 draw by Al-Khaleej in their Saudi Pro League clash (SPL) on Monday, May 8. The Portuguese forward couldn't find the back of the net, despite coming agonizingly close on multiple occasions.

Al-Nassr are now two points behind SPL leaders Al-Ittihad, who are currently leading 3-0 against Abha. Al-Nassr have 57 points on the board from 26 matches.

Messi, meanwhile, was named the Laureus Sportsman of the Year for the second time in his career at a ceremony in Paris. The Argentine forward edged past Mondo Duplantis, Rafael Nadal, Stephen Curry, Kylian Mbappe, and Max Verstappen to be crowned the winner.

Fans trolled Ronaldo after the recent turn of events. One of them wrote on Twitter:

"Nah this is sad. seeing where ronaldo is and where messi. he is finished beyond control."

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter as Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr were held to a draw and Lionel Messi won the Laureus Award on the same night:

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi might become direct rivals yet again

During their time in La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi had one of the greatest rivalries in football history. However, they have both played in different countries since Ronaldo's 2018 move to Juventus.

Messi currently represents Ligue 1 giants PSG, but his contract with the club will expire in the summer. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the 35-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season.

Messi reportedly has a £320 million offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, who are the city rivals of Al-Nassr. Should Messi join Al-Hilal, he will become direct rivals with Ronaldo once again.

While the move is far from certain, seeing Messi and Ronaldo compete against each other in Asia after dominating European football could become a great spectacle for fans.
