Brazil fans have expressed disappointment in Rodrygo's performance in the Selecao's Copa America 1-1 draw against Colombia on Tuesday (July 2). The 23-year-old star could not find the back of the net in Selecao's all three group-stage fixtures.
In Brazil's 1-1 draw against Colombia, Rodrygo had zero shots-on-target and an 83% passing accuracy (20/24), as per SofaScore. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their feelings about the forward's performance, with many pointing out the player's shortcomings. Here are some of the reactions:
"Rodrygo was awful, worse than Vini. But that attack won’t be able to do anything with those full backs that can’t even progress the ball forward & offer support. It’s embarrassing. Danilo & Windell do not belong in this team," a fan wrote.
"Rodrygo for Brazil is a flop that no one talks about," a user wrote.
Here are a few more reactions:
"Are you going to keep defending Rodrygo? Dude is Brazil's #10! and is invisible..." a fan wrote.
"Agreed. Rodrygo as well. Only seems to play well in Madrid. The whole Brazil team is an absolutely pathetic mess," another added.
"Raphinha being Brazil’s best attacker today was unexpected. Rodrygo has been completely missing this tournament," a fan observed.
"Rodrygo might be Brazil’s worst #10 in a hot minute" another comment opined.
"Rodrygo and Paqueta should be 5," a user said.
"midfeild disasterclass and rodrygo brought his genes today," one wrote.
The Selecao will face Uruguay in the Copa America quarter-final on July 7 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Vinicius Jr accuses CONMEBOL of being unfair to Brazil in Copa America 2024
Following Brazil's 4-1 win against Paraguay on Friday (June 28), Vinicius Jr said CONMEBOL has been unfair with its treatment of the Selecao in the Copa America. The forward said:
“It is difficult to play in these stadiums, because of the pitch and the referees against us not giving the clear fouls. The way CONMEBOL treats us is complicated,” Vinicius said (via MadridXtra on X).
"It is always very complicated. We have to remain firm because only by winning can we speak. When we talk, CONMEBOL also says that we talk a lot. That's the truth," the Real Madrid star added.
Vinicius is set to miss the Selecao's quarter-final clash against Uruguay on Saturday (July 6) after receiving two yellow cards in the Copa, including one due to a foul on James Rodriguez in their fixture against Colombia on Tuesday.
There were multiple controversial decisions from the referees in the Selecao's match against Colombia. A goal from Colombia was disallowed while many considered it to be legal. Fans also pointed out a foul on Vinicius in the penalty box which should have been a penalty, but none of the decisions were given.
Meanwhile, several other players have also complained about the pitch during the Copa America, including Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
