Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently issued an injury update on David Alaba. The Los Blancos Supremo confirmed that the Austrian defender would soon be available to play again after spending time on the sidelines due to injury.
Alaba joined the storied Spanish side in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer from Bayern Munich and has gone on to play 102 games, contributing five goals and nine assists. He was ruled out after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in December last year.
Perez revealed that the defender was in the stages of his recovery, saying (via Fabrizio Romano):
“David Alaba is in the final phase of his recovery”.
Alaba is expected to rejoin Real Madrid at a stage where they are stretched thin due to injuries to other defenders. During his time at the club, he has helped the team win two LaLiga crowns and two UEFA Champions Leagues.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez shares feelings about Rodri's Ballon d'Or win
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez opened up on Rodri's 2024 Ballon d'Or win. The midfielder became only the second Spaniard to win the prestigious award after Luis Suarez in 1960.
The midfielder helped his side win the Premier League for a fourth consecutive season and was integral to La Roja winning the European Championships for a fourth time in Germany this summer. Notably, Madrid had opted to boycott the ceremony after it was widely reported that Rodri would win the award.
Discussing the midfielder's win in a recent discussion with the press, Perez said (via Fabrizio Romano):
“Ballon d’Or? For sure Rodri is a great footballer and, he is from Madrid, he has our affection. He deserved a Ballon d'Or… but not this year, last year. This one was for a Real Madrid player”.
Los Blancos expected Vinicius Jr to win the Ballon d'Or for his performances last season. The forward was integral to the side's LaLiga and UEFA Champions League triumph, bagging 24 goals and 11 assists in 39 games.
