According to a report by The Mirror, former England striker Gary Lineker has bagged an impressive amount from his podcast coverage of Euro 2024. The Englishman runs 'The Rest is Football Podcast' alongside former Three Lions internationals Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.
Lineker has reportedly bagged an impressive £125,000 from his coverage of the European Championships following the rise in popularity of the podcast.
Lineker has been critical of his nation's lackluster performance at Euro 2024. He famously got into a vocal disagreement with captain Harry Kane after slamming the team's performance against Denmark.
"s***," he said.
Gary Lineker, however, missed a recent recording of the podcast and was teased by his cohost, Shearer, who said on the recording:
"Gary is still sleeping in his bed, he still hasn't woken up so we'll just crack on without him Micah. To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is f***ing unacceptable, where are you Lineker?"
Gary Lineker will hope to continue growing his popularity with coverage of the knockout stages of Euro 2024. His opinions have seen him grow the reach of the podcast, seeing downloads since the tournament began to increase by 62 percentand YouTube views by 83 percent according to his son who produces the show.
England star Harry Kane's response to Euro 2024 criticism from Gary Lineker
England captain Harry Kane has responded to criticism from former Three Lions striker Gary Lineker about his performances at Euro 2024. The Englishman has not been at his best in the tournament but believes the team should be supported by past players instead of being put down in the press.
Kane replied to the former England international turned pundit, saying via the Mirror:
"I would never want to be disrespectful to any player, especially a player who has worn the shirt and knows what it is like to play for England. But what ex-players who are pundits now have got to realize it is very hard not to listen to it now, especially for some players who are not used to it or some players who are new to the environment."
Harry Kane concluded his reply to Gary Lineker, saying:
"I always feel like they have a responsibility – I know they have got to be honest and give their opinion but also they have a responsibility of being an ex-England player. The bottom line is we haven't won anything as a nation for a long, long time and a lot of these players were part of that as well and they know how tough it is."
Kane will be keen to silence the critics when England face Slovakia in the Round of 16 of Euro 2024. The Bayern Munich star scored 44 goals and provided 12 assists in his 45-game debut season with the Bavarian giants.
The Three Lions star has one goal in the competition and will be keen to rediscover his shooting boots in the later stages of the competition.
