Piers Morgan has criticized Arsenal's attacking prowess following their recent Premier League outing at home against Everton. The Gunners played out a goalless draw against Sean Dyche's men at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday (December 14).
The result makes it the second consecutive draw for Mikel Arteta's men in the league following their 1-1 draw away against Fulham (December 8). It also meant that the Gunners couldn't close the gap on league-toppers Liverpool, who also drew 2-2 against Fulham on Saturday.
Despite dominating ball possession (77%) against Everton, Arsenal managed just five shots on target, as their attack struggled to make an impact during the game.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Gunners' lack of firepower in attack against Everton, journalist Piers Morgan pointed out the absence of a proper striker in their squad.
Morgan urged the north London giants to sign a well-recognized center forward. He opined that Arteta's side can't win the Premier League with their current strike force of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
In his words, via his official X handle (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
"This is utter crap by Arsenal. Our lack of a proper striker gets more painful with every game."
"Havertz/Jesus will not win us the League. For God’s sake, buy a bloody striker who can," he tweeted.
The duo of Havertz and Jesus has scored a total of five goals this season in the Premier League, with Havertz getting all five and Jesus yet to get on the scoresheet in the league.
"We did everything that was necessary" - Mikel Arteta reacts to Arsenal's goalless draw against Everton
The Gunners' boss was disappointed with his side's result against Everton at the Emirates Stadium, as he felt that his team deserved to have come out of the game with all three points.
Despite dominating proceedings, the north London giants couldn't find a way to get past the resilient backline of Everton.
Speaking after the game, Arteta claimed that his side did everything right except for scoring and that they were the better side. In his words, via the club's official handle, he said:
"Yes we’re very disappointed not to win the game because if there was a team obviously that deserved to win it that was Arsenal."
“We did everything that was necessary overall apart from the fact that we didn’t score a goal. We conceded absolutely nothing, dominated all the direct play, didn’t allow them to run and conceded no set pieces," he added.
The result currently leaves Arteta's side in third position on the league table with 30 points, six adrift of league-toppers Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Next up for the North London giants in the league is an away trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on December 21.
