Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has sent a message of support to Tyrell Malacia following the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen on Thursday, December 12, in the Europa League. The Red Devils went behind in the game early in the second half after an error from Andre Onana helped Matej Vydra (48') score.
However, the Premier League giants fought back to secure a win, with Rasmus Hojlund's brace (62', 88') securing all three points. Malacia started the game and had a decent outing before he was replaced by Antony in the 61st minute.
Following the win, the Dutchman shared a picture on social media, drawing a response from a lot of his teammates. Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, and Leny Yoro liked the picture, but it was Bruno Fernandes' activity that caught the eye.
The Portuguese posted a word of encouragement in his comment, stating:
"Getting better and better my guy."
Malacia picked up an injury in the summer of 2023 and spent a whirlpool year-and-a-half, before recently returning to full fitness. He has already started three games for Manchester United, who are also without the injured Luke Shaw, this season.
The Red Devils could be tempted to invest in a new left-back at the turn of the year, or in the summer. Recent reports have linked them with multiple names, including Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, whose contract expires at the end of this season. However, Real Madrid and Barcelona are apparently in the race as well, while Liverpool have been named as his likeliest destination.
When are Manchester United back in action?
Manchester United next face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, December 15, at the Etihad. The Red Devils are currently 13th in the league table after 15 games, eight points behind their opponents, who are fourth.
New head coach Ruben Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford last month, has already faced City in the Champions League with Sporting CP this season. The Portuguese secured a stunning 4-1 win with his former side.
However, Amorim is yet to get Manchester United firing on all cylinders. The Red Devils have managed three wins, and two defeats under the Portuguese so far. The team have shown improvements of late and are slowly coming to terms with Amorim's 3-4-3 system.
To make matters interesting, Manchester City are also going through a rough patch. Pep Guardiola's team have just one win in their last 10 games across competitions, which could work to Manchester United's advantage.
