Mallorca defender Pablo Maffeo has hit back at Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio with a big claim about an ongoing investigation. This happened during a clash between the two sets of players, substitutes, and the bench in their Supercopa de Espana semi-final yesterday (January 9). Madrid won the match 3-0.
After a goalless first half, Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with a brilliant effort in the 63rd minute. Things went from bad to worse for Mallorca in stoppage time, with Martin Valjent scoring an own goal (90+2'), before Rodrygo Goes completed the rout (90+5').
Early on in the match, within just 10 minutes, there was a fray between the two sides. However, referee De Burgos Bengoetxea was able to keep things under check. At half-time, when players were headed towards the tunnel, some more arguments could be seen on the pitch.
However, after the final whistle, Maffeo and Asencio were involved in a verbal altercation that brought both sides into the fray. The situation reportedly escalated, with Asencio blowing kisses at Maffeo and telling the 27-year-old full-back (via Football Espana):
"Go home, you’re very bad."
Maffeo retorted:
"Go and spread videos, t***."
This reportedly alludes to an ongoing police investigation into the 21-year-old Real Madrid defender and five other academy players. They are being investigated for distributing child pornography, but an official statement from the club has not been provided on this matter.
According to a report from El Confidencial (via Football Espana), three of the accused players no longer ply their trade at Los Blancos. The video was reportedly shared with another five players in the club and some 32 players in Spain.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti speaks about upcoming El Clasico final
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has spoken about the upcoming El Clasico final against Barcelona. Los Blancos beat Mallorca to clinch their spot in the final, while the Blaugrana beat Athletic Club Bilbao 2-0 on January 8.
Speaking after the win over Mallorca, Ancelotti told the press at the King Abdullah Sports City (via club website):
"In recent times the Clasico has always been unpredictable. There have been games that we've won easily and others where they've beaten us 0-4. It's difficult to think about what the final will be like, but it's going to be entertaining because there'll be a lot of talent on the pitch. I don't know how it will go. We will try to do better than Barcelona."
Notably, Real Madrid have a fairly impressive record over the Blaugrana in recent times. Aside from the 4-0 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 26, 2024, Los Blancos have won their last four El Clasico matches in a row.
