Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts on Everton potentially being punished for alleged FFP breaches, referring to Manchester City's alleged charges.
Premier League have recommended that Everton be handed a 12-point deduction if they are found guilty of Financial Fair Flay (FFP) breaches (via Goal). An independent authority is investigating the alleged charges and the fate of the club could be decided by the end of the year.
After the news broke out on Wednesday, Jamie Carragher referenced Manchester City while reacting to it. The Cityzens were charged with alleged 114 FFP breaches last season but no action has been taken on them yet.
Speaking about the same, Carragher posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"The PL want a 12 point deduction for Everton for one charge. Man City are going to end up in the National League North if the PL get their way!!"
He added:
"Unbelievable the amount of stories that come out about Everton’s situation, but Man City’s, which has 114 more charges & has gone on for much longer, has gone very quiet."
As per Goal, Manchester City have sought legal action against the charges levied against them. This could lead to a potentially long legal battle, which would see any clear judgment be postponed for a further date.
A 12-point deduction could cost Everton dearly
The Toffees have been extremely poor on the pitch in the last few seasons and it appears that things haven't gone quite well off the pitch as well. Everton fans have consistently demanded a change in ownership in the last few months.
As per Sky Sports, American company 777 Partners were looking to buy majority stakes in the Merseyside club last month. They had even agreed on a deal with Farhad Moshiri, who owns the majority of the stake in the club. However, with such FFP breaches, it'll be interesting to see if the deal goes through.
On the pitch, the Toffees barely escaped relegation from the Premier League in the last two seasons. They appear set for another relegation battle this season as they are 16th, just three points above the relegation zone.
Sean Dyche's side currently have seven points from nine games and a 12-point reduction could perhaps lead to their relegation. They escaped going down by just four and two points in the last two seasons, respectively.
