Ex-Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has likened Mohamed Salah to Al-Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo, suggesting that the Egyptian is right to publicly address his contract situation.
Over the past few weeks, Salah has emerged as a hot topic of discussion as he is in the final seven months of his Reds deal. The 32-year-old superstar chose to reveal that he has yet to receive a new offer from his club last month.
During a recent chat on Sky Sports, Sturridge shared his thoughts on the former Chelsea star and the ongoing debate whether the forward was in the right to talk about his future. He said (h/t liverpool.com):
"Each player goes about it in a different way. Virgil [van Dijk] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] haven't really spoken about it, but Mo is a different player and a different personality. He has gone about it in a way, which he feels will get him what he wants."
Sturridge, who scored 68 goals in 160 total games for Liverpool, added:
"I don't agree with it. Players who have individual mindsets go about things in their own way. Cristiano Ronaldo was questioned at times and he was doing interviews and going about things in ways people didn't agree with. For certain players, when they are at the top and they are one of the greatest and things don't go their way, they approach it like: 'Do you know who I am?'"
Opining on Salah's mentality, the ex-Manchester City star continued:
"He is so sure of himself. He doesn't doubt himself one bit. 'If you don't want to pay me, that is okay, I will go to one of the other best teams in the world'. I think it is about respect."
Liverpool eyeing Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are keen to snap up Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal teammate Geovany Quenda. Their representatives are set to hold talks with super agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the Sporting CP star's potential availability.
However, Liverpool are expected to face difficult competition from a number of clubs in their pursuit of Ronaldo's teammate. Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen are all keen to sign him.
Quenda, who has been on the bench for Portugal twice so far, is relishing a breakout season so far. The 17-year-old left-footed star has scored two goals and registered as many assists in 21 appearances across all competitions for Sporting.
