Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Manchester United should sell Bruno Fernandes to raise funds. The Red Devils are reportedly preparing a major overhaul of the squad and Carragher believes that their skipper should be shown the exit door.
Carragher has claimed that Fernandes has been amazing for Manchester United over the years despite his team's struggles. However, he believes that the Red Devils should sell the Portugal international as he is 30 years of age now.
The Liverpool great has also highlighted that Fernandes can let his team down with his lack of discipline on and off the ball. The former England international wrote in his column for The Telegraph:
"A dilemma also looms with Bruno Fernandes. Unlike Rashford, Fernandes has been one of United’s best players during a tough period and would have shone with more quality around him during his Old Trafford career. But he is 30 now and there may be value in offloading him to raise funds."
Carragher added:
"Amorim may see it differently and believe a few more years of Fernandes alongside shrewd additions will serve the team better. Selling must be a consideration, however, because Fernandes is one of the few players who can attract a significant fee if profitability and sustainability rules are an issue."
The former Liverpool defender added:
"I’ve always felt Fernandes is a great talent rather than a great player. He creates a lot of chances but can be very indisciplined with and without the ball. That makes it a lot harder for United to defend as a compact unit as he chases the ball all over the pitch. It looks like great commitment to the supporters but the manager will be tearing his hair out."
Bruno Fernandes has arguably been Manchester United's best signing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. He joined the Red Devils in January 2020 from Sporting CP in a deal worth a reported £67.6 million. He has made 256 appearances for Manchester United till date having scored 84 times while producing 76 assists.
Manchester United identify six players as 'unsellable' ahead of transfer window: Reports
Manchester United have reportedly identified six players as 'unsellable' ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window. It has been reported that the Red Devils don't have a big transfer kitty to offer their new manager Ruben Amorim.
The 20-time English champions, therefore, might have to sell to buy new players if Amorim wants to bolster the squad he inherited at Old Trafford. As reported by Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, they could sell everyone apart from the six players they consider unsellable.
The six players are Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro and Andre Onana. Two or three more players are also unlikely to be made available for sale.
