Paul Scholes explains why Reds can beat Manchester City and Arsenal to Premier League title

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has explained why he believes Liverpool could beat Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title. The Merseyside giants have started their new era under Arne Slot in fine form.

Slot had big shoes to fill after replacing Jurgen Klopp at the helm at Anfield but the Dutchman has been on point so far. The Reds have won 11 of their opening 12 games across competitions and sit at the top of the Premier League table.

Only a shock 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest has tarnished their 100 percent record. Paul Scholes backed Liverpool to pose a bigger challenge to Manchester City for the Premier League title than Arsenal.

The former England and Manchester United midfielder hailed Liverpool's fitness level and the quality of the squad, saying on The Overlap via Teamtalk:

“They’ve got legs haven’t they, which is a big thing. I think the biggest thing I noticed at Old Trafford when they played against [Manchester] United, ‘wow, they look a fit team’. And there’s quality with it as well."
"The three in the middle of the pitch, with the forwards they’ve got in front of them, I don’t think it really matters that much. I think we all say, ‘You’re only as good as your forwards are’, they’ve got three forwards, not three, five or six forwards who are special so that middle of the pitch I don’t think becomes that important," Scholes added.

The 11-time Premier League winner with Manchester United continued:

“Although they have still got six again, any three of the six could play who can be brilliant, [Alexis] Mac Allister didn’t play at the weekend – how good has he been? I think Liverpool’s squad is better than Arsenal’s. I think Guardiola will be more worried about Liverpool than he is about Arsenal.”

Liverpool will face Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, October 27. A victory would see the Reds take a seven-point lead over the Gunners.

Alan Shearer sends warning to Arsenal ahead of their clash against Liverpool

Premier League legend Alan Shearer insisted that Arsenal must improve their disciplinary record if they are to win the Premier League. The Gunners have seen three red cards in eight games in the Premier League already this season.

Ahead of their huge clash against Liverpool on Sunday, Shearer urged Mikel Arteta's side to maintain their discipline. He told Betfair via The Mirror:

"So far this season, Arsenal have had three Premier League matches where they have been shown a red card, and with nine points available, they’ve only taken two points. Whether you agree with the red card decisions or not, that must change."
"You can’t continue to play over an hour in games with ten men. Even in this week’s Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk, with Ben White ’s yellow card in the first half, they took him off at half-time out of fear he could be sent off," he added.

Shearer appreciated Arsenal's never-give-up attitude but warned they need to keep their cool. The former Premier League-winning striker with Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95 said:

"It could be a combination of pressure and being too pumped up for games which is causing players to be sent off. I like that they’ve got a bit of a bite about them, they don’t like being beaten and when it doesn’t go their way they come together - that’s a good trait to have."
"But you’ve got to be disciplined in what you’re doing, and they were told when the referees went around the clubs before a ball was kicked this season to explain the rules, and what they will be clamping down on," he added.

Arsenal came close to winning the Premier League title in the last two seasons but eventually fell short. They lost the title to Manchester City on both occasions by just five and two points, respectively.
