Liverpool fans have praised Ibrahima Konate on X after the Frenchman put in a brilliant performance in their 1-0 win against RB Leipzig. The two sides faced each other in the UEFA Champions League at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, October 23.

Leipzig had a good start to the game, drawing some smart saves out of Caoimhin Kelleher. Lois Openda fired the ball into the top corner in the 26th minute, but his strike was ruled out for offside. Liverpool took full advantage of this a minute later, with Darwin Nunez tapping home Mohamed Salah's goalbound header from close range.

The Reds hunted for a second goal in the second half, going close via Alexis Mac Allister's strike which struck the crossbar in the 70th minute. The likes of Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz had some good chances to make it 2-0 but were denied by Peter Gulacsi. Openda found the back of the net for the second time in the game in the 83rd minute but was once again denied by the offside flag, resulting in Liverpool sealing all three points.

Konate had an excellent defensive performance in his 11th appearance of the season across all competitions. The 25-year-old looked assured, making eight clearances, seven headed clearances, four interceptions, four recoveries, and winning three duels.

"We are happy that we have two excellent goalkeepers" - Arne Slot credits Liverpool star for shining in UCL win against RB Leipzig in Alisson Becker's absence

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has hailed Caoimhin Kelleher after he made a series of top saves in their 1-0 win against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The Dutchman also said the Reds are fortunate to have two top goalkeepers, following Alisson Becker's injury.

Alisson has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world in recent years. However, he has missed four games this season due to a thigh injury, and most recently a hamstring issue.

Kelleher stepped up once again in his absence against Leipzig, making six saves and seven recoveries. He has now kept two clean sheets in his four appearances this season.

Following the game, Slot said (via @AnfieldEdition):

“We are happy that we have two excellent goalkeepers. Alisson being out this season and last makes it even more important that you have a player like that.”

Liverpool remain flawless in the UCL and are currently second in the table with nine points from three games.
