Former player Gary Lineker has urged Arsenal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. He believes that the youngster would be a good addition to the squad that are looking for a goalscorer. The Gunners lost to Manchester United on penalties in their FA Cup clash on Sunday (January 12).

Speaking on BBC, Alan Shearer remarked that the Gunners were going to continue to suffer as they did not have a proper forward. He said (via Metro):

"I said it at the beginning of the season, I felt that’s what they [Arsenal] needed and I think that would possibly cost them the league not investing in that position."

Micah Richards named Victor Osimhen as a possible solution before pointing out that the Gunners could make a move for Alexander Isak. He said:

"It’s hard, you can’t just go out and get a No.9, there’s not that many in world football. The one I looked at as maybe short-term was Osimhen. The problems he’s had at Napoli, he’s been allowed to go on loan in Türkiye. But he’s a proven goalscorer at that level, in the Champions League as well. Obviously, I’m sure Arsenal would like to have someone like Isak."

However, Lineker opined that the Gunners should get someone like Delap as they do not tend to get the best players once they are developed. He said:

"Or they could go for a young, up-and-coming one because once they’re proven, you can’t get them. But someone like Delap I see has got a real something about him."

Liam Delap has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 19 Premier League games this season and has attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. The Cityzens have a buy-back clause in his Ipswich Town contract after they sold him for £20 million.

Paul Merson wants Arsenal to go all out for Premier League forward

Paul Merson was on Sky Sports last week and urged the Gunners to go all out for Alexander Isak as they need a forward. He pointed out that the Gunners needed to break the bank for the Newcastle United star, saying:

“If I was Arsenal and I had the money, I’d go out and buy Isak. I’d break the bank for him. He’s the best of the best, he takes Arsenal to the next level. I’m looking at the all-round picture, I’m looking at next season as well. I think if we can get hold of Isak who is the best in the business at the moment, I think that would be a massive coup for Arsenal."

Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in Isak as the Newcastle United star has been in fine form this season. He has recorded 15 goals and four assists in 22 matches for the Magpies in all competitions.
