Former Arsenal player Ian Wright has selected Omar Marmoush and Ademola Lookman as the ideal signings for the club in the upcoming January transfer window. The Englishman mentioned that these players would be 'perfect' for his former club, who are ranked third in the Premier League table at the moment.
Marmoush, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, has scored 18 goals and bagged 12 assists in 24 matches across competitions this season. Lookman, who turns up for Atalanta in the Serie A, has bagged 12 goals and five assists in 20 matches across competitions this campaign.
"There are two players I would probably go for here. I’d like people to have a look at Omar Marmoush at Eintracht Frankfurt and Ademola Lookman at Atalanta. I’m going hard on those two! Go and look at Omar Marmoush at Eintracht Frankfurt, what he’s doing. He [Marmoush] assists, he takes corners… he has really good pace. You look at them… the way we play and what we need, the both of them would be perfect. They would be brilliant," said Wright on the Wrighty's House podcast (via Metro).
The ex-Arsenal striker also congratulated Lookman, who was recently named African Player of the Year. The latter had an excellent 12 months with his club Atalanta and country Nigeria. He has scored six goals in 23 appearances for his country since making his debut in 2022.
"Yeah, but the thing is, that’s like a real wish. African Player of the Year, congratulations! He looked amazing. Congratulations, Ademola. Great story. I saw a little documentary on him and it was so uplifting, his journey, so congratulations to him," Wright continued.
"I never expect January to be super busy" - Mikel Arteta
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, however, dampened the hopes of the club's supporters with his statement that he does not expect January to be 'super busy.' Speaking to reporters after their goalless draw against Everton on December 14, Arteta had mentioned that he and the club would wait and see.
"I never expect January to be super busy, but we have to wait and see where we are. Some surprises can come, we are prepared for that, some opportunities as well, and we have to see. Hopefully the squad availability is going to be better in a few weeks so we will have to wait and see," said Arteta (via BBC).
Arsenal will next face Ipswich Town at home in the Premier League on Friday, December 27.
