Pundit Graeme Souness stated that Bruno Fernandes' behavior on the pitch was affecting Manchester United. The former manager claimed that as a captain, the Portuguese midfielder was not setting the right example for his fellow teammates.
Souness said (via Daily Mail):
"From his antics when the game is not going well to constantly throwing arms in the air, shrugging his shoulders at teammates - and he wears the armband. You want your captain, your leader, to be setting an example for everyone in that dressing room, that is why you pick him as your captain because he leads by example. What example does he set for Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho, young players all making their way in the game?
"I think he has become a liability for Manchester United. He has undoubted talent and he will be thinking he should be playing for the very best teams out there but he is not and he is showing negativity which will be damaging to those around him - as with the sending-off against Wolves," he added.
Fernandes was already on a yellow but dived into a needless tackle early in the second half, earning his marching orders. That already marks his third sending-off of the season, including twice in the Premier League and once in the Europa League.
This has definitely affected Manchester United who are in the midst of a difficult campaign. They are currently 14th in the Premier League and with just one win in their last five games.

Manchester United have received a boost as they target Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes. According to French outlet RMC Sport, the Portuguese international is looking to leave the club amidst contract talks stalling.
The 22-year-old made his senior debut for Sporting under Ruben Amorim, playing at left-back as the side won the Primeira Liga and the Taca da Liga, before earning a reported £34 million move to Les Parisiens. Currently, his contract with the club is set to expire in the summer of 2026, with the side keen on prolonging his stay.
However, amidst the uncertainty, Manchester United have made an offer for Mendes. The club are reportedly keen on adding a left-sided defender, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia suffering from regular injury troubles. Diogo Dalot has been currently used there but Amorim is keen on upgrading the position by signing Mendes.
