Barcelona icon Rivaldo has backed Kylian Mbappe to succeed at Real Madrid despite his slow start at the club. The Brazilian legend believes that the Frenchman has the talent and is at the right club that could help him win the Ballon d'Or in the future.
Mbappe joined Los Blancos in the summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Judging by his standard and precedent in Ligue 1, he was expected to hit the ground running in Spain. However, the Frenchman has yet to hit top gear.
Mbappe has been deployed as a central striker by Carlo Ancelotti with Vinicius Jr already claiming his preferred left-wing position. The 26-year-old has struggled in this position, managing 12 goals and two assists in 23 games across competitions.
However, Rivaldo claims that Mbappe is an exceptional player, and will eventually become successful at Real Madrid because he is at the best club in the world.
“Mbappe is having a tough start, but I always said he would be a successful player at Madrid, a scorer, and a standout figure,” said Rivaldo.
“He has the talent to be the next best player in the world, and he is at the best club in the world in terms of titles and history. Adaptation takes some time, but I am sure he will be a key player and a strong candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the future,” he concluded.
Despite his struggles with the Merengues, Mbappe has already helped the club to two trophies - the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup - scoring in both finals.
Kylian Mbappe claims he would have stayed at PSG if Real Madrid move failed to materialize
Kylian Mbappe recently disclosed that Real Madrid was the only club he was willing to leave PSG for. He claimed that he would have remained at the Ligue 1 side if he hadn't secured a move to the Spanish giants.
"I spent seven years, it was an honor. I don't think I say it enough or show it enough, but I've always been aware of where I am and the great club that is PSG. I have always said that it is the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world," Mbappe said (via Ojogo).
"I went to the biggest club in the world and I always said that this was the only club I would leave PSG for. If I hadn't been able to go to Real Madrid, I would have stayed at PSG all my life. I had the dream of playing there and I'm very happy. Of course, I always watch PSG games, I have friends in the team and they are playing well at the moment," he added.
Mbappe will look to add to his goal involvement tally for Real Madrid when they next face Sevilla at home in the league on Sunday, December 22.
