Manchester United interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided fresh updates on Amad Diallo's injury. The Ivory Coast international had to be subbed off late in the game against PAOK in the Europa League after helping his side secure a 2-0 win.
The Red Devils secured their first win in the Europa League on Thursday, November 7, courtesy of Diallo's brace. The 22-year-old opened the scoring in the 50th minute for Manchester United before doubling their lead in the 77th minute.
However, the fleet-footed winger went off with an injury in the 81st minute, having suffered several hard tackles and knocks during the game. Ruud Van Nistelrooy revealed they were assessing Diallo's injury and hoped to see him return for the weekend game. The Dutchman said, as quoted by Utd District:
“Yeah, of course, he had to come off. Unfortunately, he’s being assessed now and, of course, I hope that he will be available for Sunday. But we have to wait and see.”
Ruud van Nistelrooy's final game as interim manager of Manchester United will see him take on Leicester City on Sunday, November 10. In his three games in charge of the Red Devils, they are unbeaten, having won twice and drawing once.
Amad Diallo has scored three goals and provided one assist in 15 appearances for Manchester United this season. Since his reported £37 million switch from Atalanta in 2021, he has contributed with six goals and three assists in 36 games for the Red Devils.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka opens up on struggles at Manchester United
English defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has opened up on his struggles during his time at Manchester United. The full-back, who now plies his trade for West Ham United, admitted that he felt lonely during his time at the club.
The former Crystal Palace defender claimed that he only had his PlayStation to accompany him in Manchester. He told Standard, as quoted by The Mirror:
"It was difficult. Very difficult. I went [to Manchester] on my own and it was my first time moving away from home. I had no one up there, apart from my PlayStation."
The 26-year-old added:
"Because Manchester’s smaller, everyone’s aware of everything that’s happening. You have to be mentally strong to avoid the negative stuff it comes with."
The defender also opened up on his decision to quit the Red Devils to join West Ham United in the summer:
"I spoke to the club and they thought this opportunity was best for me. They gave me some time to think about it. In the moment, I didn’t, but I spoke to family and friends about it and we all decided it was the right time."
Manchester United had high hopes from Wan-Bissaka when they snapped him up for a reported £45 million from Crystal Palace in 2019. However, he could never really impress the Old Trafford faithful.
Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances for the Premier League giants, scoring twice and providing 13 assists. He won two trophies for the club in the form of an FA Cup and a League Cup.
