"He could have gone last year" – Harry Redknapp shares honest opinion on Mohamed Salah's future amid Liverpool uncertainty

Harry Redknapp has opined on Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United manager Harry Redknapp has suggested that Mohamed Salah has already decided to leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.

Salah, who will turn 33 next June, has become the talk of the town of late. He claimed that he has yet to receive a new contract offer from the Merseyside outfit after the Reds' 3-2 Premier League win at Southampton last weekend.

During a chat with The Sun, Redknapp was asked to opine on the Egyptian's current situation as the winger is in the final seven months of his current Liverpool deal. He replied (h/t Metro):

"If I were in Arne Slot's place, as his manager at Anfield, I'd be thinking that Salah is gone after this season, no matter what cryptic messages he puts out to muddy the waters over his future. If he hasn't signed by now, then to me Salah is gone, despite those comments about the club not coming up with a new offer like he did."

Sharing more thoughts on the former Chelsea star, Redknapp added:

"Let's be honest, next summer he could head over to Saudi Arabia and pocket a £100 million signing-on fee alone. And that's without his wages on top. He has a choice. If he is purely football driven, stay at Anfield. But even for someone like him, if clubs are dangling crazy figures in front of you, it becomes difficult to turn down."

Claiming that Salah is holding out for a move to Saudi Arabia, he said:

"He could have gone last year but was probably thinking that most of the £100 million or even £200 million Liverpool would have got for him, will be going his way in 12 months' time, so he is sitting it out. In some ways, if he wins the Premier League title again this season, it seems like a fitting way to go out."

Liverpool to hold talks with teenager's agent

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are interested in signing Manchester United target Geovany Quenda in the future. They are likely to meet with super agent Jorge Mendes over a potential move for the Sporting CP in the coming weeks.

However, Arne Slot's side are expected to face stiff competition in the transfer race for the 17-year-old left-footed forward. Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig are all keeping tabs on the player.

Quenda, who has a deal until June 2027 at Sporting, has contributed two goals and as many assists in 20 matches across competitions for his club.
