Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has lavished praise on his ex-teammate Gabriel, calling him one of the 'nicest men'.
After three years with the Gunners, Ramsdale joined Southampton in the summer of 2024 and has made 14 appearances for his new side since then. While he's enjoying new life at the St Mary's Stadium, the 26-year-old reflected back on his Arsenal days.
Among other things, Ramsdale also spoke of Gabriel, heaping praise on the Brazilian for his determination in a game, while also sharing an interesting anecdote. Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League, the goalkeeper said (via afcstuff):
“He’s one of the nicest men until he gets over that white line. He’ll do anything to either save a goal or score a goal. I’ve seen him have his teeth knocked out, & he’s on the pitch after trying to find them!”
Known for his aggression and tackling ability, Gabriel has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world. He's played in 18 of 20 league games this season, playing a big role in keeping a watertight defence that has conceded only 18 goals, the fewest in the top flight.
Arsenal return to action on Wednesday, January 15, against Tottenham Hotspur in a North London derby at the Emirates.
Arsenal impress in Premier League but Liverpool out of sight
With 11 wins and 40 points in 20 games, Arsenal have been among the more impressive teams in the Premier League this season. They are six points clear of reigning champions Manchester City and are second only to Liverpool, who are six clear at the top with a game in hand.
Mikel Arteta's side have a massive gap to fill but have demonstrated a strong run that has kept them on the coattails of the Reds.
They should give Arne Slot's side a tough run, although with both teams having to negotiate a few cup games along the way, things could get interesting.
